Resolutions

Just a poem for all my New Years Resolutions this year. Happy New Year everyone, here's to hoping it's better than the last.

The bells ring

The ball drops

The lights flash

And people cheer

 

We go through

All the motions

To welcome in

Our new year

 

Smiles on faces

Joy in hearts

And everyone has

Their own resolutions

 

She wants to lose weight

To fit into old jeans

And he will work harder

To earn his promotion

 

And as I watch them all

Make promises to themselves

All I can do

Is make promises to you

 

I promise I won’t

Cut my flesh any longer

And I swear I will try

Not to cry any more

 

I will do my best

To stop starving myself

And I will start each day

Telling myself I’m beautiful

 

I know it will be hard

And sometimes impossible

But I will do these things

To make you smile

 

You have always loved me

And you held my hand

So I will fight myself

And make resolutions for you
