who is that in the reflection?

who is that in the reflection?

A Poem by Beacon
"

A personal subject I want to try and give some more substance too. I definitely feel quite a bit of people have an issue with being themselves.

"

Who is that who stares back from the reflection?

This is suppose to be you, right?

They are familiar, yet seem a bit awkward.

There seems to be a bit of everyone there.

The skateboarder who constantly roams the park.

That popular girl who everyone knows.

Even the cool guy who people like to hang around with.

Who is that who stares back from the reflection?

They smile, yet it is cracked with false happiness.

The eyes reveal a wondrous soul, dulled by envious gaze.

The stance is one of false confidence, taken from others.

Who is that who stares back from the reflection?

This is not the you that you recognize yourself to be.

The reflection appears wrong, a plastered façade.

So many additions have been made.

No longer does the original picture

Show on the surface of this painting.

I very much like this, it's a subject I share a desire to explore. If you're looking for more inspiration on the subject perhaps read my poem "know yourself"? Mechanics wise I think you have a lot of effective wording but I think you may benefit from subtelty early on in the piece. When you make your point clear off the bat and continue to reiterate the rest of the poem you run the risk of losing attention. make use of more rhetorical questions and insinuations early on and then wallop the point home in the end, it will overall have a stronger effect. Bravo!
