Before I Fall

There's little things in life,

You don't appreciate,

Until they're gone,

But you never know,

When those things,

Are gonna disappear,

They could be gone,

In the blink of an eye,

Or be gone in a million years

Before I fall,

I don't want my whole life,

To flash before my eyes,

I just wanna see the good times,

Live like I was dying,

And love like I only have,

Seconds to live,

But the truth is,

I won't know when before I fall

I don't wanna miss those,

Once in a lifetime chances,

Or miss out on my chances for love,

To see just how you feel,

And you learn a new lesson,

Author's Note

This song is about trying to live like you're dying. I wrote this after I read the book Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver. The story is about a girl who made a lot of horrible choices in her life. She ends up getting into a car accident and is killed. However, she wakes up the next day, and everyday after than, reliving the same day over and over, trying to make it better each time. She tries to do all of the things the wants to do before she dies, before she wakes up the next morning. That book inspired me to write this song. In real life, everyone knows that they're going to die someday. The only problem is that you never know when. Some people could live to be a hundred years old, when for others, their next few minutes could be their last. People need to realize all that they have in their life. They have so many things that they love, such as family and friends, but they don't really appreciate what they have. Yet, when you die, you're going to wish that you had everything back again. You're going to want things to be like they used to be. One of the topics that were mentioned in the story I read, was that how everyone says that before you die, your whole life flashes before your eyes. However, the girl in the story realized that she only wanted to see her greatest hits before she dies. When you die, you don't want to remember the things you did wrong, or the times you cried. You want to remember the times you smiles, laughed, and fell in love. You want to remember the moments that made you love your life, not the ones that make you hate it. One tricky thing that happens in everyone's life is love. Whether you have feelings for some, or someone has feelings for you, it always seems confusing and scary. Confusing because you never know how the person feels about you. Scary because you know if you make a mistake, you could lose that person forever. When it comes to having a crush on someone, there are two kinds of people. Some people are fearless. They just tell the person how they fell without the slightest bit of hesitation. The other people are kind of shy. They spend their day hoping their crush doesn't catch them staring at them, or tries their hardest to seem normal in front of them. As for me, I'm the shy kind. If someone I liked asked me over and over again if I had feelings for them, I would always deny it, for fear of their reaction. However, this book taught me that I have to speak now. You can't just wait for love to find you. You can't just wait around for the person you love to realize they care about you and be brave enough to make the first move. You have to step up for yourself. Who knows, the person you may have cared about for so long, might have loved you all that time as well. Yet, the truth is you never know. You have to take that risk. You have to let the person know, instead of lie to them. You have to take the risk of telling that person how you really feel about them. They could either like you back, or they just might not feel the same way. At least you have a chance. You let them know what was really in your heart, so that you know you gave them that option. Yet, no matter what their choice is, they know. And if you leave today or tomorrow, you'd feel so much better knowing that they know you love them. <3
