Balanced

I stand balanced

Perched above a cliff

Wondering if I should

Let myself fall into

The joyous and terrifying

World before me

I know he’ll catch me

But still I’m scared

To take that step

The one that will carry me

From the brink of childhood

And into the world at large

Still

Despite my fear

I will take that step

Because I need to

And maybe I’ll fall

But maybe, just maybe

I’ll learn to fly
