lushly on the bayou

lushly on the bayou

A Poem by Christie Moses

your dark sails skim my cheek

fluttering with every beat

like destiny spools unwinding

into the shimmering lakes at night

capturing a wayward wind

great wide sails semi spoken

to taste that wild breath

caught tangled in my hair

sweet as the motion of kiss

exhaling to the heat of a desert

 drifter

stealing my cells and the shadows

in my soul

brush my lip with your eyes

taste

the avenues of my burning descent

speak low in murmurs of midnight

two a.m.

the way you speak of rain

like its essence can be explained

the way you smile

like the sun itself consumed your skin

something in the way you move

calls to me

calls so deeply to me

as your dark sails skim my cheek

and my heart flutters like feathers

in your palm

your thoughts express the depth of reaching into the very essence of touch and the mind holding those very sensual and carressing senses of love, caught between the views of Nature and those sails of midnight...a very thought provoking poem Christie...exceptional...

This sounds like song lyrics. I can see someone singing this.

Sometimes it is the words which shape the feelings but in this case it is definitely the feelings that shaped the words. You open a passage into your world through dreamlike images and those images ARE as poignantly sensual as a warm wet night on the bayous. My favorite part of this poem is the title! It captures the whole overall impression of your piece here and is reflective of every bayou i've ever been on after midnight especially when romance was involved ;-) Your words are haunting and beautiful in the way only you seem to so ably portray a sentiment or experience. I always marvel at how smoothly and effortlessly you transport the reader into a surreality wherein he is achingly eager for the picaresque to continue! Superbly crafted and among my favorite writers here as always.
