Berries and retrospection

Berries and retrospection

A Poem by Christie Moses

a brilliant sun licks the shore

with slivers of nostalgia

strawberries

bursting like rapture

fat and heavy

hanging low

on summer vines

ripe and red as bloodstains

with my thousand echo cries

beyond the reverie of my sorrow eye

 is the sea beckoning

murmuring with overweight blue lips

to taste its eternity

fling your soul to its inevitability

listlessly i twist to its wild untamed wind

its gypsy skill of being free

sand thrown upon my lids like density

don’t you remember me...?

sweet lush wet storms on my lashes

and your fingers raw in my hair

like the callouses of rough wood

so tender they lay there

tangled into my skin

licking tongues of chaos

(yin and yang entwine)

sky sweeps like the great july prancing

and your roaming palms unreel

feral

to steal my broken dreams

you

sexy in bare feet and mussed hair

strawberries

strawberries everywhere

buried in the green sway of fingers

by the great vast alone at sea

my mind drifting always

to the pain of

 you and me

Oh my! This is a treat for the mind; This piece takes me to a summer I spent in Cali, the Bay so close by the fresh strawberry fields and the woman who stole my heart by my side seaside…It all tasted so sweet at that time…

I love the images in this verse:

“sweet lush wet storms on my lashes
and your fingers raw in my hair
like the callouses of rough wood
so tender they lay there
tangled into my skin
licking tongues of chaos
(yin and yang entwine)”

Great Write Christie!

This poem is so loving and tender Christie. I like how the central thread of this poem branches off in different directions. Each stanza feels like an independent personification of love and the last one really puts it all together, doesn't it?

Ah.... the lulls of your tongue are too precious, soothing and magical not to take pleasure in. The sweetest memories can be the most painful to pull from the smog of our brains. But your phrases, the images you have rolling through my mind's eye give such clarity and understanding as to why you reflect back on what still stings. I want to clothe myself in such words... for they would give me warmth like no other. You continue to woo me. It never fails when I visit.

Most lovely. There is a slight shadow of sorrow here. A very lush remembrance.

ooo I like this!! very creative and visual here - the colours - the scenes and sights - the strawberries - "beyond the reverie of my sorrow eye
is the sea beckoning
murmuring with overweight blue lips" - that last line - what a thought that is - overweight blue lips! brilliant write!
