Hope For Home

A Poem by Kane Hagwood
"

A free verse poem I wrote, trying to sort out difficult emotions.

"

It was never about the numbers

Nor the eyes offering a sea of attention

Never to prove that the hills I once died upon

Were merely stepping stones to arrive

Where I am now

I never meant to compare

Forgive me for wanting to gauge the distance

From where I once started to where I am now

My offer to help you along the way gone unseen

You spited me when I handed you rope

And when I reached the top

I found it to be a truth

That below had been an empty lie

I packed for cold weather

To find destination warm

The end turned out to be the beginning

Of many roads I must explore

I wouldn’t mind as much

If I knew I had a home to return to

Will it still be here if I must carry onward for a while

Having lost so much to find the mystery that is me

These new challenges seem so bazaar

Would anyone believe me down below

If they could strain their ear to hear my cry

What is this world I have been lead to

And now

I travel

Along this mysterious path

Praying home will wait for me

That it will not leave me too

Although I know many truths

I want something real to matter

For this place I rest my bones

To have longevity and to stay around

I want this home to last

I want what I’ve learned to matter

For the climb to have been worth the pain

To understand the truth behind it all

While accepting the purpose I place within the soil

So that all can see it is good

I pray there is a home to return to

Once I discover what it is that I seek

But to the many wandering souls

May I lift my glass to thee

And may your roaming spirit know peace

this was a good one!! very vagabond. nomadic vibes.
my favorite line was:
"While accepting the purpose I place within the soil"
if the goal was to tell a short story disguised as poetry. done.
{i love the font. spacing is a little tight. but readable nonetheless.}
