These Shadows

These Shadows

A Poem by Katarzyna Anna Koziorowska

I wanted to die in the spite of love,
but my thoughts stood up
for the light.
I tried to make sense of this ballad,
but pain kept me from dreaming
against providence.

Love, do you exist to name lost stars?
Hate, did you come back to feed
our uncertain desires
with your bloody flesh?

Get up and look in my mirror.
Do you see these shadows
in my soul?
Loneliness, cruelly punctual as usual,
deals a blow with one heartbeat.

I will dedicate today's epitaph
to a tear, the last one in this city.
