The Black Ribbon

The Black Ribbon

A Poem by Katarzyna Anna Koziorowska

Black and white time outsmarted
the remorse. The thought
I wanted to dedicate to you
broke within me.

I am asking for a sip of poisonous rain,
I am asking for a tear
that will quench my longing
for loneliness.

I'm wrapped in a black ribbon
of love that no one deserves.
Hope is for those who choose
prophetic memories.
I overcome the crowd of stray words,
I rush with the wind through
the hills and valleys
on your stripped body.

I don't want you to think I don't like
your smile. I believe someone will shout
an order we all believe in.
I pray that time befriends eternity
and that life forgives all sins of death.

Weary memories fell asleep
right next to dream longings.
The purple flower of adulthood
blooms greedily in the ruins
of a sandcastle.

I don't want to die despite my youth.
I will not rest before the good
takes hold in the rented heart.
