The Taste of Air

The Taste of Air

A Poem by Katarzyna Anna Koziorowska

You are an angel
who is afraid of heaven.
Your purple wings don't know
the taste of air.

You are here despite the apocalypse
that has been going on
in your human dreams
for several centuries.

God, have mercy on this orphaned sinner
whom you gave wings
but did not teach him to fly.
Father, let him wake up from
prophetic dreams.
Give him a few death tears
so that he will know how painful it is
to journey to God's solitude,
on the border between
heaven and earth.

Creator, let this angel
be my guardian.
This angel knows pain that is foreign
even to you.
This pain remained the only reminder
of humanity. It is not worth believing,
since time has stopped
even for a moment,
since the next life will probably
end in death.
