The Oasis of Your Gaze

The Oasis of Your Gaze

A Poem by Katarzyna Anna Koziorowska

I'm in the chains of my own thoughts.
I am stuck in the silence
which, instead of light, carries a blue jug
of freshly gathered stars.

I don't want to drink the water
from your hands,
I don't want to deprive you of your marks
on my soul.
As long as the fear of love
breathes in us,
as long as the shadow envelops us
like a black blanket of night,
let us not chase loneliness,
let us not try to hold back from tears.

Before I drown in the oasis
of your gaze, let me touch your heart,
your silvery soul.
I believe that I can trap the memories,
trap your first scream
in a cage.

Before you decide to resurrect,
don't forget to put your heart on the shelf.

So many interesting lines in this. Well done. The "fear of love" was a most revealing line. But love is nothing to be feared. Our failed expectations of others on the other hand can be disastrous. The apostle John says in 1st John 4:18, "There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love." And what is the point of love except to craft perfection from broken bits of human pottery; building the mosaic of our lives? I enjoyed the read!
