The Last Heartbeat

The Last Heartbeat

A Poem by Katarzyna Anna Koziorowska

Your footprints on the path
to the new universe
have been mistaken.
Somewhere along the way
I lost my last deceived prayer.

My thoughts are on fire,
a black flame engulfs the cage
of my mind.
Your death becomes too intrusive,
your body is slowly losing
its weight.

Before we sit down
on the same bench,
let's put the naughty memories
on the top shelf,
where God does not reach.

I don't know where this loneliness
will lead us.
Longing is still trying to make life
fall in love with itself,
nostalgia deprives me
of the last heartbeat.

Your lies are uncertain.
Did you find a fallen angel last night?
Hope forbade us to trust
random masks.
