I Only Broke My Heart

I Only Broke My Heart

A Poem by Katarzyna Anna Koziorowska

The most beautiful hope
always blooms in meek hearts
of the lost.
The most delicious fruit
is given by a sterile apple tree
in a garden of living stones.

Could you please introduce me
to your life?
Would you help me lose
one more crooked tear?
My longtime guardian angel
quit his job.

I found a hint of light in you
so that silence could give birth
to faithful, naive shadow.
Love touches me with its weak arms,
loneliness seeks such sadness
that would give life to
fresh wounds.

Do not pretend
that excessive freedom is unhealthy
in this era.
Yesterday I fell from heaven,
I only broke my heart.
