Your Doomed Dreams

Your Doomed Dreams

A Poem by Katarzyna Anna Koziorowska

I saved your death from fate.

My tears stuck among

the dead flowers.

I dance though dawn will never come.

I defend myself against the shadow

that has stolen the last sun

from the sky.

Don't make me pray according to

a pattern, prayers that neither I nor my God

understand.

A tired melancholy perched

beneath the thorny eyelids.

Will there be a little tenderness

to nourish the immortal dreams?

I did not expect to find this only road

in the darkness, the roadside

leading to the city of lost sins.

Let my twilight take a look

at a fresh life, let me wake up

in my worthless paradise.

I memorized a few neat words

that will become a beacon

on the side of your doomed dreams.

This piece offers some interesting perspectives. From my own, I believe, as Thoreau, that no dream should be thought of as "doomed" if someone is willing to work for it and towards it. And why would anyone deem "paradise" worthless? "If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.” Henry David Thoreau from Walden

Heartbreak! Angels must surely cry when they read this. Don't know why, but this makes my think of The Holacaust. When can imagine a desperate Jew writing such words. Powerful.

there is such despair in this piece...the reference to paradise is so cynical...
I think the speaker dances in grief from the loss of a loved one.
immortal dreams but mortality steps in...
and the sins will find their way out of the doomed dreams into reality.
really thoughtful piece of writing that begs us to reflect on our own flowers.

The last three lines are my fave, they bring this around to hopeful, as we all can be if someone leaves a light on for us at the end of the day. Wonderful writing!
