My Uncomfortable Smile

My Uncomfortable Smile

A Poem by Katarzyna Anna Koziorowska

My deaf-mute hope

has sold my soul to an innocent God.

My lost faith in the unknown

no longer matched

my uncomfortable smile.

I hid the wrong thought

under my eyelid.

This thought does not want to become

a shouted word, a confession

without remorse.

My insatiable light ceased

to cast a shadow.

Today, hope is only an unpleasant surprise

from an incomprehensible fate.

The black fire of the sky

glows on my abandoned dreams,

and it pauses for a moment

to understand this bad joke,

this misused riddle.

Now, instead of loneliness,

people are inhabited

by nameless anger,

envy without a word of admission.

Today I am not on my way to hell.

My heart wanders among

the scarlet clouds.
