The Last Lighthouse

The Last Lighthouse

A Poem by Katarzyna Anna Koziorowska

I wanted to hide love in the arms

of the soft sky, but the light

went out too quickly.

I wanted to punish the pain

for still chasing my thorny shadow.

Don't feed the world with my life.

Don't sell my lost pleas

to God for one gentle dawn.

I don't want to leave

until my lips smell your emerald kiss.

I tried to run beyond my imagination,

but life hit me in the face.

You don't have to tell me

about your remorse,

I don't deserve it.

Each of us has a life-giving sin

in our pocket.

When the last lighthouse goes out,

I'll drown in deaf tears.

And there will be no one

to forbid me to trust hope.
