The Most Beautiful World

The Most Beautiful World

A Poem by Katarzyna Anna Koziorowska

I wanted to give you the whitest heaven,

but you preferred to tame

the earth with your words.

Your rebellious tramp feet

have led you again to the margin

of light, to the edge of the most

beautiful world.

I found among a billion words

the one that would have the strength

to mean love, to mean freedom.

Before you hug my thoughts,

before you touch my memories,

show me one last side

of the two-faced moon,

introduce me to the sun

that never remembers what time

to get up.

Awaken a miraculous lie in me,

help a scream to be born,

so that its echo nourishes wounds,

protecting them from healing.

The last damned star blooms inside me,

a pale green sky weeping overhead.

Someone took the loneliness

of the insane. I don't promise

it would be easier to get the house back.

I will not lie if I admit your remorse.

Do you know the roadside

that will lead me to the last

prophet's hermitage?

Do you know a path that has a happy ending?

I would like to dream

without words, but my imagination

drowns me out.

I rose from the dead, but it turned out

that it was not necessary.
