The Final Step

The Final Step

A Poem by Katarzyna Anna Koziorowska

Get up and clear your heart
of a forgotten whisper.
Ask God for a moment of inattention.

Your self-preservation Instinct
is full of lemon pride,
your pain has become a story
for the innocent.

It is difficult to find a familiar gaze
in the midst of a crowd
of shattered consciences.

A silent breeze, stolen from
your naked hands,
demands a mouth with no last breath.
We are born obediently,
we die of spite in
unnecessary childhood.

Your God tells you how to take
the final step.
You must love life to leave.
