The Multiplication Table

The Multiplication Table

A Poem by Katarzyna Anna Koziorowska

You are an unfinished dream
worth dying for
in the spite of loneliness.

You are a word worth killing
before it falls out
from under your eyelids
that are too heavy.

It is difficult to understand
from which side
the stale wind is blowing.
It is hard to believe
that the body is too heavy
to choose the right path
at the crossroads.

Ever since I believed in your hope,
death took offense at me
and left me to die.
I do not want to express
those thoughts in which
I am immersed.
The promises slowly separate
the body from the soul.

Before you crack your last tear,
remind yourself that prayer
includes more
than the multiplication table.

Knock my legs out from under me! I don't get everything here, but wow! Reads like lost love or unrequited affection. Elements of addiction. Just... Wow!
