Another House of Cards

Another House of Cards

A Poem by Katarzyna Anna Koziorowska

Your loneliness wanders in
the wasteland of my empty heart.
The gaze, stolen from a cloudless sky,
sheds white tears
from the faces of my forbidden dreams.

I know you will never calm
my bleeding hope,
I know the pain will be my fulfillment
forever.

I am stuck in realization,
a hastily recited prayer will not satisfy
the hunger,
repentance will not provide light
to share dreams
with someone innocent.

The abyss of suffering thoughts
terrifies me, I am still balancing on
the verge of infinity.
Stay in my hands
as long as it's hard to imagine
the time of love,
as long as it's so easy to die
without a word.

Another house of cards collapsed,
a soap bubble burst.
Will the solace offered to me
by the light in your hand
help me rest before the future?

I fall apart, I die.
Only your memory makes me still here.
