Life on the Island

Life on the Island

A Poem by Katarzyna Anna Koziorowska

I can't see you on the other side
of my silence.
I can't see you where the light
of bitter love lives.

I look at myself in the mirror
of my illusions, I touch your stars
tenderly, I nurture the flower
of nobody's loneliness.

Wake me up, lift me from this dust,
give me back my freedom,
let me regain my lost passion.

My most beautiful dream
has inhabited your shadow,
my immortality has been found
in your dreams.
All that my world lacks today
is in your aquamarine mirage,
it wanders among golden constellations.

One more night wakes up inside me,
one more dawn soothes my tears.
The life I have inherited from you
will pass with the brush of my lips
that will seal the wound
of my heart.

Do not be afraid of the stars,
my hand has tamed them.
I have lived again on an Island
where there is no lonely sky,
where I can listen to your ballad
without regret.
