Let Me Spread My Wings

Let Me Spread My Wings

A Poem by Katarzyna Anna Koziorowska

I woke up
in the wrong world.
I have risen from the ashes
that God's hand has scattered here.

I was born from this silence
that flows from your lips,
which is my sweetest hope.

You avoid my dreams again,
you are afraid that I won't let you
wake up.
You would like to return
to the world of the living,
but you cannot lift a boulder
of heaven under whose weight
you are dying.

When only a few dry dreams
remain after my free will,
let me see the other side
of your world.
Let me free my soul from shackles
of the mundane,
let me spread my wings
and fly above the sky,
above paradise.

The night within me will not fade away
with your first warm breath
and sweet pain.
Embrace me with your silence,
tame my nightmare today.

When I go into the unknown,
don't look for me.
As long as the shadow lives in me,
the world will not die.
