The Other Side of the World

The Other Side of the World

A Poem by Katarzyna Anna Koziorowska

Your body is made of
unnecessary tears.
Your melancholy does not require
any time to let its quiet
fade away.
Your miserable hope does not match
the epochs here.

I wish I could fall asleep
at your command, but pain keeps
my heart from moving on.

Dreams that you have stolen
in spite of the Sun
will not bring you relief,
they will not give you the shade
brighter than the light.

If I died, would you give me
one prayer?
If someone opened a window
instead of a door,
would you run away to the other side
of the world?
