[Thought] Why bother?

[Thought] Why bother?

Not a story, just a random thought I had while walking that I wanted to share

"

It was the international book day and I was walking around the city square where many old obese antique book sellers along with slick young entrepreneurs with their shallow read and dump type self-publishing mixed around with religious workers, engineers and everything in between were fitted in the same space. Among the chaos nothing truly drew me in, there was nothing for me and I only wished to spend a little money for a struggling author that also didn’t seemed to belong here. In this search I saw sea of old books on a white tarp, placed neatly on the ground with no logical categorization this gave me an existential crisis for a brief moment as I realized “In this lifetime I cannot read all of this” there are simply so much to read and you can just spend all your time reading best sellers, top 100 book of all time list rankers and still not truly reach the bottom. So the question is this “Why bother writing if there is already so much anyway” why does your voice and ideas matter more or deserve attention when there are time and tested works, safe bets, guaranteed classics and hits? To a reader the choice is obvious.

To a writer the answer is always some complicated mix of actual reason along with tenderness of their heart. Regardless of the fact that you may never achieve recognition or nobody find out about you, authors persist because they have the primordial urge to say something, tell stories and dream about different worlds even if nobody cares and I find this pursuit the most admirable and cannot escape the pull of it.

Hi I am aspiring writer and I want to tell stories about the urban decay, the selfishness of people or the true nature of evil and many more things I cannot fit here, what do you want to tell?
