Chapter 8: The Different TrialsA Chapter by KornezChapter 8 The different trials.
The wedding was beautiful too much for words, if you my dear reader, had seen Vesper in human form she would have taken your breath away. She was in a white dress with a train. She had a bouquet of flowers. I didn't look too bad myself in my tuxedo that Vesper made me. It was entirely black. I had a red tie also. I thought I was a knockout. And Red was there also. I had to say my vows and I will kindly tell you how I did it. “Do you Pullus take Vesper to be your wedded wife?” the minister asked. “I do.” I said. The minister turned to Vesper who's eyes sparkled with such love. “Do you Vesper take Pullus to be your wedded husband?” He asked. “I certainly do.” Vesper said. He turned back to Pullus. “Do you Pullus take Vesper to love her care for her in sickness health till death shall take her?” He asked. I smiled. “Certainly.” I said. “Do you Vesper take Pullus to love and care for him in sickness and in health and till death shall take him?” He asked her. “I do.” Vesper said. Red fell asleep till the very last part. His eyes opened. “With the power invested within me and the power of love I pronounce this couple husband and wife.” The minister said. A tear sprinkled out of my eye. “You may kiss the bride Pullus.” The minister said. I didn't need to be told twice. I loved the cake but I rejoiced that I finally had Vesper with me. No one would be able to take her from me now! “You did it Pullus.” Vesper said through her mind to mine. “I practiced.” I said back. “Together forever.” Vesper said. But I felt unsure. Or at least Vesper did. We walked out of the church and as usual Vesper tossed the flowers to the crowd. “Well, I didn't expect that.” I grinned. Vesper made the flowers turn into petals and they rained all over the people. We made a house just out side of town and I was as happy as can be. For me, I had succeeded in getting what I wanted the most. For Vesper, I had won my place in her heart. And I hoped to stay that way. Vesper shifted to dragon form and nudged me. That night we had a party all to our selves. And I my dear reader love my dragon, I would let her have all the love and the happiness in me if she asked for it. One day while I was at the village I saw a wanted poster of a hunter who hunted dragons. I snarled at the picture. The mans hair was all tangled and he had a cowboy hat and his eyes looked cold and dark. He didn't look very old either. He'd be in town some time soon and at the bottom of the picture was a model dragon with him whipping it. A flash of Vesper in the place of the model dragon made me flush with fury. If this man even stepped foot near my wife, I would kill him. I walked away cringing practically. All of the sudden I smelled smoke, I followed the smell till I came to a burning house there was a woman standing outside screaming for help. I ran up to her. “Whats wrong?” I asked. “M-M-My baby!” The woman sobbed. I ran into the burning building which could come down any minute, and tried the stairs, as soon as I reached the top the stairs collapsed. “Okay.” I said to myself. I listened to all the doors for a sound, there was a scream from one of them and I kicked it open. A young baby girl looked up at me with teary eyes. “Mama?” The girl sniffled. I grabbed her and opened the window and slid down the wall. I reached the ground and the baby's mother was crying with joy. Then the house caved in. “How can we thank you?” The mom asked me. “You can come and live with us.” I said. “Us?” The mother asked questioningly. “My wife and I are very protective.” I replied. The cottage my sister had wished for was now my home and Vesper's. Vesper came down stairs in girl form when we opened the door. She must of felt the mothers fear. “Why don't you go upstairs to the attic and get me a bottle for the baby?” Vesper asked me. “Oh sure.” I said running up stairs. As I neared the stairs with a bottle in my hand I heard Vesper talking to the mother. “How do you manage with him?” The mother asked. “Oh he's fine the best man you could lay eyes on, with little flaws I would say. Vesper replied. I came down with the bottle feeling a little confused. Vesper must have noticed for she stared after me, as I left after giving the bottle to her. That night I was staring at the moon in thought. Vesper came out in dragon form and stood beside me. “Why do I have flaws?” I asked her. “So you heard.” Vesper muttered. I glanced at the moon. “What a night.” I said. “You did good today.” Vesper sighed. “There was a wanted poster of a man who hunts dragons.” I said fearfully. “There, there, boy he's- what?” Vesper turned her head to me. “You saw a dragon hunters poster?” She asked. “Yes.” I said. Vesper sighed. “Lets not be afraid Boy he's probably not here yet.” Vesper calmly said. I smiled. “Let me sleep with you tonight.” I said. “Don't I always?” Vesper asked. She licked my face. I chuckled. “To be honest you don't always.” I said. “Yes I do.” Vesper said. “No you don't.” I giggled. “Yes.” Vesper snickered. I was laughing now. I couldn't stop laughing. “Your so funny.” I laughed. “You think.” Vesper said. “I don't like arguing.” I grumbled. “The moon looks dimmed.” Vesper said changing the subject. “Well,” I said. “It might be the clouds.” “Could be.” Vesper said. I stared at Vesper for a while. “You know,” I said. “I really like the way you look right now.” I said. “Well,” Vesper said rolling her eyes. “You must be thinking funny.” “Really?” I asked. “Why ask when you already have a answer?” Vesper asked. “I hate puzzles.” I groaned. “I don't want you to get upset.” Vesper rumbled. “Well its just tough arguing with a sweet dragon like you.” I said. “Yup.” Vesper snickered. Vesper stared at me. “Is something wrong?” She asked. “No.” I sighed. Vesper nudged me. “Come on,” She said. “Tell me.” “I'm disappointed.” I confessed. “You won't feel disappointed after I give you a couple loves.” Vesper giggled. “Not so pushy.” I mumbled. “Huh?” Vesper asked. “Nothing.” I said. “Ah.” Vesper whispered. She sighed. “There isn't many nights like this.” She said. “Err.” I mumbled. Vesper purred. “Does it look like the sun is coming up?” Vesper asked. “We have been talking all night!” I shouted. “Look at that isn't it beautiful?” Vesper asked. The sun was coming up in the east. “Yes!” I shouted. “Not that the star.” Vesper said. “Oh that is the morning star.” I said. “No that is the evening star.” Vesper said excitedly. “Your star?” I asked. “Yes!” Vesper shouted. “You have all your power?” I asked. Vesper smiled. She licked my face. “Yes I do.” She said. “And there is something I would like to do.” She said. “Have you ever heard of a joined mind?” She asked. “No.” I said. “I will show you how.” She said. She stared at me. “Look into my eyes Pullus.” Vesper instructed. I stared. “Don't worry about what happens.” Vesper said. “This is the most hardest thing a man can do with a dragon.” Vesper warned. All of the sudden everything went black. “Don't worry,” Vesper told me through her mind to mine. “This is all part of it.” I felt myself falling over, then I felt Vesper catch me. I felt Vesper turn into a girl. I felt her breath on me. “You will lose control of yourself and I will do all the rest.” Vesper said. I wasn't sure what was going on. “So what will happen?” I asked. “You will be inside my mind and you will no longer need your body.” Vesper said. “You will know everything I do and know all the secrets a dragon could hide.” Vesper said. I was excited now. Knowing the secrets, the knowledge and understanding of a dragon was unthinkable! It was a fantasy! I felt Vesper pull my mind into hers. Really her forehead was on mine. I could feel all of my knowledge zap and lock and crash and slam with hers. “Almost there.” Vesper said. I was getting excited when all of the sudden I hit a wall. “Vesper what is this wall?” I asked. I pushed on it. Vesper's mind all of the sudden panicked. I felt myself being pushed out. I was knocked out of her mind into my own body. I fell over. Vesper turned her head away with tears in her eyes. Apparently whatever that was was something she couldn't let me know. I realized that the wall was the future. I walked up to Vesper. “Forgive me.” Vesper sniffed. “I can't do it.” She said. I stared at her. “What was that?” I asked. “That was the future.” Vesper said. I didn't dare ask anymore questions I could see it was impacting on Vesper. I hugged her. “Maybe we can try again some other time.” I whispered. “Yes.” Vesper agreed. A tear dropped from her eye. I kissed her cheek. “You tried.” I said. Vesper glanced at me. “I love you Pullus.” She whispered. “I do to.” I chuckled. She gently hugged me. I stared at her with my powerful eyes. “Don't worry about what happened.” I said. “No worries.” Vesper said. Living with Vesper is one thing but loving her, that's another. I gently kissed her lips. All my love was emptying into her. We held there for a moment. I released her. “There.” I said. Vesper purred. Vesper then exhaled a long sigh. “Thank you Pullus.” She said smiling. I smiled back. I turned to see a boot print in the grass I froze once I saw it. “Vesper!” I croaked. “Look!” Vesper came over. “Oh don't worry I have seen lots of people wondering around at night.” Vesper said reassuringly. That day I was pacing up and down the stairs a-little worried. Then there was a knock at the door. I opened the door and came face to face with the hunter who was in disguise. It took every fiber of my being not to show how furious I was. “News has reached my ears that you rescued my family is that correct?” The hunter asked. “We will see.” I growled. I told Vesper to be careful through my mind to hers and prayed for a miracle. “Zenith?” The baby's mother called as she came down stairs. As soon as she saw him she shouted for joy. “Zenith your alive!” she said. “Can I talk to you a moment?” Vesper asked the mother. The hunter turned to Vesper his eyes widened for a moment but then the surprise faded. “Sure you can,” The man said giving me a slick smile. “Don't worry take all the time you need.” As soon as the mother and Vesper vanished he turned to me. “Your hiding something I can smell it.” He growled. “What could I be hiding?” I asked him. “A dragon.” He said smiling triumphantly. “If I was hiding a dragon I would have told you.” I replied. “People like me aren't stupid boy.” The man growled. “You best watch it then,” I warned. “The dragon could be hiding under your very own nose.” “No dragon has ever beat me before.” The man growled. “I find that hard to believe, you must be fighting dragons that don't have a reason to live then,” Said I. I unsheathed my sword. “Get out hunter.” I said calmly. The mans eyes widened. “Oh yes I've seen your poster there is a lot of people who want you.” I said still calm. “Die!” The man shouted. I blocked his sword but he kicked me out the door. I landed on the sidewalk parring his blows. We went pretty far before Vesper and the wife came out. “Zenith what are you doing?” She asked. “This man knows what I have done, he's going to die for it!” The man shouted. Vesper spun into a dragon and picked the man off his feet. “Now you listen here mister,” She growled. “You want to hunt? Well there is a saying that the hunter will become the hunted.” The hunter turned white with fear. “I won't hunt anymore I promise.” The man said. Vesper narrowed her eyes. “If you break this promise I'll come and kill you.” Vesper warned. She put him down and they ran off very quickly. The man spun around and shouted “Your pregnant by the way!” He shouted before running off. Man what a surprise Vesper looked very excited. “You were very brave.” I said. I was smiling to myself. © 2016 Kornez |
