Days

Days

A Poem by 송지석 / Ji-Suk

Whenever we met up, we'd spend the night
sharing endless stories, about our dreams
We would dream together, get excited together
We look forward to tomorrow

But the day started getting shorter
We became more anxious each day
Everything that seemed forever
Began to disappear

I miss the days we'd be honest
Sometimes it hurt, sometimes it was embarrassing
But that's why I was grateful for those times of mess
We could share everything
We shared the same dreams
What changed?
What have we come to value now?

When we meet up now, over drinks
We talk about the good old times
What we don't talk about anymore
are the dreams from our twenties

I miss when we could encourage each other
Sometimes with a pat, sometimes with sour words
That's why I was grateful for those days, I wasn't lonely

We could share everything
We walked the same direction
What changed?
What have we come to treasure now?
Like that, we became adults
The blue days of our youth become memories

What changed?
Our hearts still beat hot
Nothing's different
So why is it so difficult now?

Thank you! c:
we are carefree when we are young. the sky is the limit. life is what happens. we get older, things change, priorities change, we change. life becomes more precious. so we start making compromises.

this is a good, honest, heartfelt write. it made me think. thanks for sharing ... :)

Thanks for the review! I miss the old days, but we still meet up from time to time!
When I read this I started to think about my two grandsons and the pals they had at school. They also had a group of friends that they had known for years and had much fun with. When they left school and moved into college, they made new friends. They still kept in contact with their earlier friends, but some of the closeness had gone. They have moved on, and no doubt when they are both in the workplace, probably the same thing will happen again. You will always have those memories, but life is about change.

Thank you very much!
This is a very sweet, heartfelt poem. I can see the nostalgia you must feel thinking about the good ol' days. Highschool was terrible for me and I don't miss it at all. I feel like I will forever live in my youth because even if I grow up I refuse to grow old. I can't live with mundanity, I revolve around duality and change. I'm always tipping the scale back and forth in life. Sometimes it makes life hard but it always gets better. I hope at least.
