We would dream together, get excited together We look forward to tomorrow
But the day started getting shorter
We became more anxious each day Everything that seemed forever
Began to disappear
I miss the days we'd be honest Sometimes it hurt, sometimes it was embarrassing But that's why I was grateful for those times of mess
We could share everything
We shared the same dreams
What changed?
What have we come to value now?
When we meet up now, over drinks
We talk about the good old times
What we don't talk about anymore
are the dreams from our twenties
I miss when we could encourage each other
Sometimes with a pat, sometimes with sour words That's why I was grateful for those days, I wasn't lonely
We could share everything We walked the same direction What changed? What have we come to treasure now? Like that, we became adults The blue days of our youth become memories
What changed? Our hearts still beat hot Nothing's different So why is it so difficult now?
nothing like having friends we can feel comfortable being embarrassed around.
That kind of sharing...priceless.
I really like the feeling of this piece.

An excellent read... And so relatable. The melancholic tone of the poem just makes it more heartbreaking. Loved it!

I could feel so many of the emotions you are describing, thru your words. For example, I could feel the way there was camaraderie in the early days, jovial times spent together really caring for each other. I could also feel the fading excitement turning to bland disappointment, the way life gets in the way. You describe these life changes in a way that’s specific for your group of people, but not so specific, & that way it’s relatable to all kinds of people going thru similar things. Our friendships change drastically as we go thru life. Connections we thought were solid become broken. The very best thing about your poem is the way you talk about how you had DREAMS & over the years, this is what you miss the most. This is so true & I don’t even think you’re old enuf to really know how it goes. I’m almost 62 & I can tell you that lots of people my age have no dreams at all. They rarely try something new & spend some time getting good at it, becuz they think of their lives as being almost over. Your poem shows an earlier stage of this issue happening to people (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

That is very cool! Keep doing the work to maintain those connections! *smile*
I can feel every single bit of it right from the first line till the end..And actually it brought me memories of my school friends..All of us we are so busy today in our life , for admission to different colleges , in preparing for college entrance exam , that we rarely find time to bring back the same craziness and childishness that we used to have..You know there is a saying that if you never had a friend , you never lived life...It fits so true for this poem..Friends help us to evolve..You are indeed a good writer Ji Suk..
Keep on writing...

Oh..That's great..I hope that like you my friends will also be with me throughout my life...
I can relate to this one, growing up I have no time for old friends and they are busy and caught up in their lives as well. It's sad when I think of it but the reality is we've all grown out of that friendship and life moves on. I wish I could freeze time and go back to the days we'd all meet up and play football in the rain or go gaming at a gaming cafe or even just speak on the phone. Growing up sucks sometimes, your poem is a dose of reality and truths that sometimes we just so easily look passed. Good write, your work speaks like a journal of your heart.

Yep I do. Besides that I work another part time job as a waiter. I don’t like that job much.

We appreciate school. Too late. Having friends near. Best days of our life.
We could share everything
"We walked the same direction
What changed?
What have we come to treasure now?
Like that, we became adults

Like your above lines. I have contact with few people from my school days. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.
