JobA Poem by 송지석 / Ji-Suk
My older brother, a lawyer
agonizes every day whether it's right to crazily pursue this job that earns no money - a losing business Though his rent might be overdue and pushed back He can't shed the shackles of his dreams Though about to burst into tears, the workload all night long gives him no break. But you're a bird that must fly until it dies. You must live until you die but there are lots of concerns. Don't rest, it's only a moment. Like a ray of light, break through the clouds of life. You momentarily postponed the success that must follow a man's name. Your skills? Already top-notch. Success is not only about money, so don't worry because spring is about to come. It whizzes past, over my shoulder, my youth departs. I shout to hold on, but it wants to be let go. Yes, hyung. I'm a bird that must fly until it dies. I only feel alive when I breathe. Out of all jobs, why did I chose to be a police officer? But I started and came far, it can't be reversed. About to take a taxi, I opened my wallet. There wasn't enough, so I went to the bus station. Alone, I waited 30 minutes for the bus, that had already left. I run to take the metro instead. It's a struggle to survive. Every soju glass comforts. As I age, now, I understand my father's drunk habits. Hey, Seoul sky, you just watch me. Because money is not everything because it's spring soon. Don't look back, you can do it. A bruised youth that must risk life for its dream A life in its thirties, with nowhere to hide anymore. Even life like that, it's how life is. Though out of breath, blow until the last breath. Paint the white canvas even if it's a grey dream. Why jealous? Why afraid?
Tomorow comes anyway. And as long as it doesn't stop, the lives of you and me are still hot. © 2018 송지석 / Ji-SukReviews
