Spread My Wings

Spread My Wings

A Poem by 송지석 / Ji-Suk

Rebellion is not permitted
For those born into this dark world.
But I look beyond the azure sky
And spread my wings, hoping I could break this world
I realized from the moment I was born
This world has taken away my freedom and dreams.
You could call it a prison
There is a limit to what's beyond the sky like the adults confined to me at a young age.
Looking down on the hot sun.
I wanted to know, so I reached for the truth yet adults telling me to choose another path.
I tried to fly on these broken wings with outstretched arms
Rebellion is not permitted.
Look I'm breathing despite the pain.
We die without knowing anything of what it is like to taste freedom.
Wings that got too close to the sun to seek our dreams
Resistance is not permitted.
This world is still breathing.
There's no end to this sorrow and darkness around us.
Ruled by sorrow
In a world that's gone mad that confines dream to the youth.
I've been deceived by the adult but I'm breathing still.
Is death my reward?
I will tear the darkness apart and reject society's pressed ideals and dreams on me
Rebellion is not permitted .
The world is now spreading its wings and changing their ideals so that we may live free.
I break the world.
To the longing sky

I think you have written this very well. In many ways the world does seem a prison, and I love the sentiments of breaking out. I think many of us are 'breaking ' the world. To the longing sky, what a wonderful idea! 'The world is now spreading its wings and changing their ideals'. Yes, sometimes words and sensible ideas, speak louder than actual rebellion and resistance. Let's hope there really is a change for the better.
