HanaA Chapter by KonekoJust recently abandoned, an infant is found and taken home.
A woman walked into a small clearing after the long travel through countless trees. She wore embroidered clothing that was fit for a queen. In her arms she held a child less than 1 year old. Her green eyes looked around her then to her mother and smiled. The woman walked to the center where a skinny tree was. The leaves were a lush green from the warm sun and periodic rain. She laid the infant, covered in a silk cloth, down by the tree, where wildflowers also flourished. On the cloth there was a crescent moon with a sword behind it embroidered on it. The woman then pulled a rose out of her hair bun after pulling down her hood, and set it next to the child. It was a white rose for good luck. She then removed a picture from her sleeve and hid it within the cloth. Her head snapped up as she heard voices. She kissed the little girl’s forehead before standing up. She heard the voices getting closer and moved to the edge of the clearing where she entered. Looking back one more time with tears in her eyes, the woman finally disappeared back into the trees. A minute later a couple walked into the same clearing. Automatically noticing the bundle by the tree the woman rushed over to it, carefully picking it up. The Woman looked to be 19 and the Man was also young, but older then the Woman. They spoke in whispers. “She can’t even be 1 year old.” The Man mentioned. “I know? She’s so beautiful, who would be so cruel to leave her in a demon infested forest?” the Woman said and noticed the white rose on the ground and picked it up, in doing so the picture fell from the silk. The Man picked it up. It looked to be an ink painting of a king. He turned it over and saw a name. “Agni Shiberu.” He said. “Who’s that?” the Woman asked. “Not sure, but it sounds familiar though.” He responded. The woman looked down to the child then back up at the Man. “Can we keep her?” She asked. “You make it sound like she’s a pet.” He laughed. The woman shrugged. “So…” She continued. “Well we sure as hell not going to leave her in this forest.” He said. The woman smiled and they began their walk back to the village where they reside, this time coming home with a child. “What are we going to name her?” He asked. She looked down to the infant that was now sleeping in her arms and remembered the wildflowers that had surrounded her. “Hana.” She answered with a nod. He nodded his agreement and they continued their walk in silence. The sun was beginning to rise, painting the sky pink and orange. © 2008 KonekoAuthor's Note
