Cigarette

Cigarette

A Poem by Koiel
"

Just a girl and her Demon

"
She stuffed her hands into her pockets
Pulling out the soft, wrapped package.

She peeled away the wrapper,
Opening her box of treasure.

Out she pulled a cig,
Holding the filter between her soft lips.

She flicked her lighter
Feeling the warmth of fire.

It lit the black night in her palm
Though her whole world was night.

Sucking in, the world looked a little lighter
Just a little less dark.

Just a little less lonely.
Just her and her cig.

I don't smoke cigarettes, but I do occasionally smoke cigars, and I love bourbon. I get the same comfort and peace you experience with a cigarette. It's a little escape, a torch in the darkness, alone with our unhealthy "friend." So, I think I get it. I love the simplicity and vulnerability you convey in a few brief words. Nice work.
