MemoryA Poem by KoielMy late dog, DoofusMemory I forgot you were gone today. I came home, expecting you to come to me. I expected you to excitedly skip up to the door. I expected the, “Oh, hush!
Be quiet!” of my lips. But you did not come to the door. And I’m glad, in a way.
Because if you had, in fact, skipped up to the door You would have stopped to hack And cough And gurgle. I would not have bent down to hush you, I would have bent down to comfort you. At least I know now that you are not in pain. At least I have the thoughts of your little body Wallowing around the living room, Making messes and laying in the patches of sun. At least I have the memories of you. We went through it all, you and I. I miss you, Little man. You kept me safe and
happy, And I know you are
safe and happy now. © 2017 KoielAuthor's Note
