Looking Back

Just some feelings that I need to let out

Flash backs of that day shine in my mind like distant stars

The pain, the sorrow, the fear, and despair that left the scars

Breaking her heart, along with my own left me unable to see

A constant reminder of the weakness that possessed me

And the seal of my own covenant that I broke, which enabled it all to start

The life I took, the poison I drank, and the lies that almost completely darkened my heart

Are the moments that I found within myself the seeds of my own destruction

Remembering all that has taught me to stop and listen for my instruction

Now that some time has passed and the wounds have all healed

My sword and shield have been returned for me to wield

A new strength is filling my once broken bones and torn skin

Now that my God once again dwells within

I can feel my spirit rising higher and higher towards an everlasting peace

Allowing, finally, for all the pain to cease
