Even in the Hard Times

You seem like a nice guy
I haven't caught you in a
lie, and happiness consumes
me when we talk just you and I

I know it may be hard at times
for you to understand the way
I am but you stand by me like
a gentleman

Love comes in many forms
and it's up to you to fight
it or invite it in even if you
could lose everything

But what is love if it
doesn't have it's trials
because life won't always
offer you warmth and smiles

The last stanza was perfect. It feels good to be near to a gentleman. I, myself don't bother with any man who is not.
The one place that sounded just a little funny was in this line:
"I am but you stand by me like" I'd like a comma, but you just have to think about that for yourself. It is hard to read it like that for me, because it blurs two different things together.
I really enjoyed reading this poem. It is full of nice sentiments and told in very sweet nearly hesitant way, as seen in these lines: "I haven't caught you in a
lie, and happiness consumes"
You told a story of life and romance in this strong little poem.
