Already There

Already There

A Poem by Klyn

I know you think that I don’t know

You think I’m old and worn,

But let me tell you little girl

This heart’s been tarred and torn.

You think that I don’t understand;

Can’t comprehend your pain,

But burrowed in this veteran heart

You’ll find many scars remain.

My tongue has tasted bitterness,

My tears have run awry;

I’ve prayed to God for comfort,

Demanding answers to my “Why?”

The odor of disappointment

I’ve smelled many times before

The feeling of desolation

Eating heartily at my core

Don’t think for just one minute

I haven’t walked the roads you do

I’ve been up and down and all around

More than a mile I’d say; or two.

So when you push me away

And say that I don’t care

Just know I’m right here for you

And I was already there.

This reads like a country song. So wise and full of meaning. Young people can do well to listen to the experience and insight of us older people.

Nicely put Klyn.
