My Life: The Musical, Chapter One

"Kiss me goodbye, I'm defying gravity. I think I'll try defying gravity, and you won't bring me down."

Oh, I was so good. That audition was so many years ago for choir. How lucky was I, being born with this amazing, powerful singing voice? I had to thank my Mom again for being the most prestigious actress in the history of theatre. My Father, of course, had a part in my success. He was, of course, the most famous choreographer in New York City. I loved living in a mansion by a lake, with my own maid. I loved being able to sing for celebrities, and hiring personal chefs for parties. In a word, I was amazing.

The kids at school knew that, too, but they didn't want to admit it. I was the best out of all of them, they had absolutely no talent. Sure our school had the best performing arts program in the city, but I was the face of it.

Musical auditions were coming up in a few weeks, and I was completely prepared. It was a musical written by our very own Mrs. Dane. The musical was simply titled, "Welcome to my World". She hadn't explained it to us yet, but I was pretty sure she'd explain in drama class today.

Feeling excitement wash over me, I finished applying my make-up and headed to school.

The hallways were buzzing with chatter about everyone's winter break. Well, who went on a cruise? Not Amy, our head cheerleader, or Mandee, our school skank, but me, our school's star. Sure, some people didn't like me, or admire me, but they would one day when I played Elphaba in Wicked, or Eponine in Les Miserables. I would tour in London one day, I'd tour all of America! No one had faith in me besides my parents, and it was all pure jealousy.

"Hey, Sasha," my best friend, Quinn, greeted me in Drama class. "Are you ready for Drama Class?"

"As always," I smirked as we took our seats.

"Class, we have two new students joining us today." Mrs. Dane began class. "This is Henry Snow and Dana Quincy."

Like I cared. All I knew was that today was their first day, and I needed to show them who owned this class. If they didn't like me, it was a good indicator that they were jealous.

People didn't realize that jealousy was a like a gift to me, their hatred music to my ears. It fueled my fire, and just showed me once more that I was the best out of everyone.

"Henry, Dana, you picked a good day to join us, because we're going to be starting our musical unit today. I've written a stage play titled "Welcome to My World"." she began.

"What's the lead female part?" I immediately asked, so I could keep my eye on that character throughout her description.

"The characters do not have names yet. For now, we're calling the main girl 'Sally'. I'll let each cast member choose their character's name." she explained.

Mrs. Dane was the one person at this school that I truly respected. She had pure talent, almost as much talen at my parents. She was the only person not related to me that I felt could beat me at a sing-off. Mrs. Dane was a genious, and no one really appreciated her besides me.

"So, what's the musical about?" Dana spoke up.

New kid spoke to Mrs. Dane already? Most new kids were too afraid to speak to her.

"Well, I'll explain." she began. "It starts off with the main character, whom I explained we will nickname 'Sally'. Sally is a princess, with secret magical powers. No one knows about these powers except for her best friend, who we'll nickname, 'Andy'. Sally is betrothed to a prince from a neighboring country, and we'll call him, 'Bill'. Sally does not love Bill. She falls for Andy, to her parents' dismay. She ends up running away with Andy."

She took a pause and looked at her notebook.

"That's all I have so far, but we'll figure it out together." she grinned, sitting down in her chair.

"Mrs. Dane, you haven't even finished the plot yet?" I laughed half-heartedly. "How are we supposed to get started?"

"We'll figure everything out, Sasha. You're not to worry." she chuckled and set her notebook on the table. "Alright, so, we'll start the readings today. These are just temporary names, mind you. Who wants to try reading for Sally?"

Luckily, I'd practiced shooting my hand up first.

"No guy wants to read with her," I heard someone whisper.

Please. A guy would be blessed to read with me. I was the future face of Broadway, a future grammy winner. Everyone was jealous, and it wasn't cute.

"Who would like to read for the part of Andy?" Mrs. Dane squealed.

The guys each scanned the room, looking for a victim to volunteer. What was so wrong with reading with me? I mean, I was a teriffic actress.

"I'll read with her." Henry spoke up.

New kid? He'd better be good.

"You've certainly got a pair, dude." a guy laughed.

    Well, screw you, then.

"Here are your scripts. Let's get started." Mrs. Dane handed us each a booklet. "They're what we have so far. Sasha, pick up on page six, towards the bottom, scene four."

I studied the line for a brief second before taking a deep, yet silent breath.

"Andy," I delivered, centering myself. "I'm being forced to marry Bill. What am I going to do?"

Henry took a look at his line.

"Sally," he looked up from his page, and into my eyes.

    Wow, they were pretty eyes.

"I have something to admit." he continued.

    "What is it?" I read.

"I'm in love with you," he delivered, so perfectly. "I always have been."

    "Oh, Andy," I answered breathlessly.

    Damn, I was good.

"I love you, too." I grinned. "What are we going to do?"

"Run away with me," he answered automatically, as if by instinct. "I'll protect you forever."

    "And Scene!" Mrs. Dane called.

"The scene wasn't over yet," I raised an eyebrow.

"Well, I've seen enough to realize that this show is going to be perfect! Auditions will be next friday after school until five o' clock." she announced. "Bravo!"

The rest of the class clapped, mostly cheering out for Henry. I rolled my eyes and bowed anyways, reclaiming my seat next to Quinn.

"Good job," she squeezed my arm. "You're teriffic."

"I know," I smirked, glancing over to Henry.

    He was good.

Karli
This idea popped into my head today. I want to be in theatre, so I was looking at colleges, and this idea just kind of came up.

P.S- I'm planning on actually making this a musical eventually.
