Poem about Self Harm

Self Harm.

It's a word that everyone knows

But not a word that everyone understands

People that don't self harm say things like

" Why would you do that to yourself, that's stupid."

" You have no reason to do that."

" You're just doing it for attention."

People that do self harm, say nothing. 

How do we tell you that it's an addiction?

How do we tell you the problems we have, when you think they don't exsist?

How do we tell you how hard we've worked to keep you from seeing our cuts?

We don't cut for attention.

We do have our own reasons.

We do it because we want to feel something.

We want to punish ourselves for what we've done to others.

Whatever the case may be, we can't explain it to you.

How can we explain that we have an addiction,

when you dismiss it as a cry for attention?
