How to use a sewing machineA Story by My Sewing ActivitiesTo set up a machine, all you need is a bobbin and spool of thread. Step one is obvious, but it is to plug in the machine. Now place your spool of thread on the spool pin. Next, Begin to unravel your tPlace the bobbin on the bobbin winder after wrapping the thread around it multiple times to get it started. Push it towards the plastic knob that is right next to the bobbin winder. This will stop your sewing machine when the bobbin gets too full. Press down on the presser foot, the plastic foot pedal that should be on the floor, as if you are driving a car. When the bobbin is full, the machine will stop itself and you are ready to set up your sewing machine. Cut the spool from the bobbin and push the bobbin winder to the left, away from the plastic knob. Keep the spool of thread on the spool pin and take the end of your thread and pull it around the pressure regulator. Keep pulling it and bring it to the right side of the take-up lever and down the left. This will take you near the needle where you should see a small hook. Squeeze the thread through the hook so it doesn't get in your way while sewing. The last step with the spool is to thread your needle. Pull out about an extra foot of thread. Now, place your bobbin the compartment directly below the needle. Follow the arrows on your machine, as all sewing machines are different and they may vary slightly. Place the clear plastic bobbin cover back over the compartment. Grab the end of the foot of thread that went through the needle and turn the handwheel towards your body. When you have your fabric pinned, and you are ready to sew, place your project under the presser foot. Use the pressure foot lever and gently drop it so it is holding your fabric down. When you are ready to sew, start out slow and sew about an inch. Hold down the reverse stitch lever and go over the inch you just sewed. Release the lever and keep sewing until you get to the
end of your project. Once you reach the end, hold down the reverse stitch lever
for an inch and then forward to the very edge of your fabric. By backstitching
the terms of your seams, this helps to reassure the thread from unwinding and
creating holes in your garment. Refrain from sewing off your fabric. © 2017 My Sewing ActivitiesAuthor's Note
