Reading Backwards

A Poem by Kirsty Woodward

because I needed you on days like today

buried ten feet under

it doesn’t matter that you just left me there

to pick apart the words you said

until there was nothing left of them

I sat on the arm of the chair

and you didn’t look at me once

and now I have this constant burning in my chest

because you never let me know.
