Luck

Luck

A Poem by Kirsty Woodward

You're so lucky, she said
I'm dying in this place and you're leaving
You're so lucky, she said

I do not own luck
Luck hasn't given me her hand to shake
to walk with her side by side
Luck hasn't knocked on my door
and given me an ace of spades
Luck wasn't my friend when I was born
She isn't my friend now
I do not converse with Luck
She is non existent
and I
feel sorry for those who believe in her.

Luck has not given me soft, graceful hands
untouched by harsh winds
Luck has not given me a soft heart
for I have seen the world for what it is,
I cannot think fondly of human beings
Luck isn't on my side.

Passion
Determination
Solitude
Ambition
Hate
Unjust
Heartbreak
Sickness
Love
Art

I would not trade the way I see the world
for an ignorant eye.
You don't get a ticket out of the life that is
forced upon you
through Luck
Luck has not brought me my gift
I have created and moulded it with my bare
hands
and I slowly try to chip away
at the walls of my cement
heart
with my brittle fingernails.

we create our own creativity through what life gives us...i used to bowl a lot...there were certain strikes that appeared to be luck...but those of us who did it seriously, we knew that most of the carry was made by the revolutions of the ball, not by luck.

same with love, same with the pen...

we use what comes, and make with it what we will.
