There's A Fine Line Between Determination And Desperation

has he ruined you completely,

my dear

taken every ounce of your beautiful soul 

and thrown it to the sharks 

without a second thought 

to the point where, 

your dearest friend doesn’t know who you are 

anymore.

I refuse to believe. 

I know you’re in there somewhere 

no matter how destroyed you appear 

I can see it in the corner of your eye 

when we’re together; drinking tea. 

I’ve tried to break down your obsessive wall

told you over and over 

his vines are poison

but  

you’ve built it far too tall

and my hands are far too small.

Quite a vividly written and expressive piece of poetry. Determination and desperation indeed have a fine line between themselves. I like the ending. The way you have pictured your emotions throughout the poem is lovely too. Keep writing.

think in the fourth line you meant "thrown"---

yes there is a fine line...and sometimes we are so determined to love and be love we miss the obvious...that determination is destroying us inside...and when we are immersed in the relationship we lose objectivity...others can see it, we can't.

It read nice. I always enjoy a good emotional vampire themed poem.

I don't think there is an actual difference between desperation and determination. Just depends on how you view the world, what your values are, and how you define things.

Desperation and determination are like powerful colognes or perfumes to me; when it's strong you definitely notice it... but what smells like cat piss to one might smell like flowers to another.
