This Town

This Town

A Poem by Kirsty Woodward

This town,

I’m just not feeling it anymore

The buildings

The news

The faces

And the worst part of it,

The conversations

Those damn conversations.

Where are the philosophers?

The critical thinkers?

Surely they haven’t ALL died

Come out, come out

I need you to survive.

You have just put into words my exact thoughts. Everywhere we go, it seems there are no people left that care about things other than the shallow lives they live. It's quite annoying, really.

A piece of advice: never use capital letters in the middle of sentences. Try putting the emphasized word in italics. Also, make sure you use only words; symbols ruin the literary feel of it. So my suggestion would be to say 'and' instead of '&'.

Otherwise, I loved it.

A nice poem, ma'am. It is concise and clear-cut, you have made your point in the finest way one could have.

Well, I can truly relate to that. My town needs them, too.

Perfectly said! I know this feeling exactly. I've long since moved away to some almost deserted dirt road. I don't run into any "critical thinkers" over here, but, at least, I don't have to live alongside the calamity that is city life. I hope you can find some way to life at peace with your environment, in one way or another.

Thanks Clifford. Everything is temporary eh.
This is exactly how I felt in the years before moving to the stillness of the mountains. The thing I hated the worst about living in town is the way everything is centered around spending money, shopping, eating out, drinking, partying, watching TV, or in short: CONSUMING . . . & talking about these things as if it's the most important stuff in the world. I'm far from being a critical thinker or a philosopher, but for me, observing the simplicity of nature is my turn-on. I love the line: "I'm just not feeling it anymore" becuz it suggests you WERE feeling it, at one time. Just thinking about how we go along with this for so long before we realize it doesn't resonate! Love this message.

This is a ray of light in a tragic tempest of noise.

Look at the level of the dialogue at the national level and in the news and entertainment media, and it will give you an idea of the pathetic level of thinking that is the expected quality of critical thinking in this country, in this day and age. It is very sad, indeed.

I receive a friend request and I stumble on this! Well, there aren't many philosophers in my neck of the woods either. Shame, really.
