This Town

This Town

A Poem by Kirsty Woodward

This town,

I’m just not feeling it anymore

The buildings

The news

The faces

And the worst part of it,

The conversations

Those damn conversations.

Where are the philosophers?

The critical thinkers?

Surely they haven’t ALL died

Come out, come out

I need you to survive.

You have just put into words my exact thoughts. Everywhere we go, it seems there are no people left that care about things other than the shallow lives they live. It's quite annoying, really.

A piece of advice: never use capital letters in the middle of sentences. Try putting the emphasized word in italics. Also, make sure you use only words; symbols ruin the literary feel of it. So my suggestion would be to say 'and' instead of '&'.

Otherwise, I loved it.

Beautiful. A to the point poem. No fancy things. Worth reading.

Epic and I relate...sometimes the soul doesn't feel at home where it was born...

Your words reflect my mind when I'm out in the society. It feels like as we are developing, we're going backwards in our communication, mentality and unity. We need more of those people that aim to change, that are fearless..

Thank you Rachel. It's nice to become acquainted with like minded people.
Yeah really. Seems like the same old thing all the time - "Those damn conversations". We do need the philosophers to survive. Good thought.

for its paucity of words this one speaks volumes. "Deep calls to deep" poem while so many of us splash around in the shallows to our detriment.

The banal conversations are a result of banal "entertainment". Soaps, computer games, text communication. There is little human stimulus, which is why we write. At least we can get a response. Thumb driven texts now replace face to face discussions. Look for a debating society or a philosophy class. There is life out there, believe me.

Yes, I wondered where all the thinkers and philosophers went a various points in my life. Just look on line, in places like this and you will find them. Yes, a lot are dead and long past, but new warrior poets abound on line in many different forms. I liked your poem and wanted you to know you are not alone in your thoughts.

Your comment is truly appreciated.
Ha... "those damn conversations". The emptiness of them can swallow all hope from you.

I feel the western world is becoming painfully template style polite on the average. Sure, politicians are aggressive a*s clowns and most celebrities are a******s... even certain agreed upon topics can be a little heated. But everyday discourse has become something just as scripted. People want to hear certain things, you are rude or selfish if you do not play by their rules. (I refuse to talk politics with all but a handful, most vehemently disagree with me; but at least they have actual reason to speak with)

The template of politeness and political correctness will be the end of informal critical discourse. The beginning of an idiocracy.

It should be fun to watch at least.

This was not a review I guess... eh, whatever.
