Talking In Silence

Talking In Silence

A Poem by Kirsty Woodward

What to say

When you’ve got nothing to say.

They expect you say something

People

People

People

Always talking

Filling those silences with their

Voices

Voices

Pretending that I care

For an easy day

& on to the next

But those silences you see,

Are the best part of my days

& they’re taken from me

By

Voices

Voices

& I’ll smile that fake smile

That I wear so well.

I feel exactly the same way, that's why I live in the boondocks with only furry friends to keep my attention on the important details of living a simple life. I've never been very good at tolerating the NOISE that many people must create daily. Half our TV programs are so-called "reality" shows with a bunch of noise & bickering & it drives me crazy the way people have to say something even when they have nothing to say. Sorry about this rant, but your poem just brings it out of me! I love the way you've used the repetition of single words to illustrate the way many people just say the same thing over & over. Also, I love that your poem is short (much shorter than my review) to show your preference for being concise *smile*

Flows very nicely & reads well. Great rhythm. Sometimes it is better to just not say anything.

I can relate to this so much...My thoughts are the one that make me feel more alive but guess what? We can always choose the voices we listen to and sometimes their thoughts are similar to ours and then those fake smiles wear off... It just takes time to find those voices.
loved the poem

Oh the sanity in silence. So true.

But those silences you see,
Are the best part of my days

As an observer, I understand the importance of silence and for you, it seems even more. These are also my "best part of my days" I sometimes feel like I'm within a crowd when I am silent for others. Talking to myself is one of the best feelings I have. So for people like me, its a great poem (Y)
