True LoveA Poem by Kirsty HignettI wrote this 18/7/16 - expressing my feelings on true love and my own bitterness about the topic.
'True love'? Its a bitter lie.
Don't fall into the trap. I'll tell you this, heed my word; True love is a pile of crap. There is no Princess or Prince Charming, Waiting to sweep you off your feet. Only heartache, pain and torment When you fall swiftly in defeat. I used to think love would triumph In this world - bitter, corrupt, unjust. But in foolishness, I forgot to remember That 'love' is a mere shadow of lust. Nobody is 'made for you', So get used to settling for less. Don't get caught up in seeking perfection, You'll wind up in a mess. You'll hurt yourself if you wait For one you truly desire. Your candle will swiftly snuff burn right out When you light unnecessary fires. This poem may sound bitter. Well I am too, I'll admit. Wouldn't you be if you loved someone Who doesn't even acknowledge it? 'True love' is a fantasy. To hide the painful truth, y'know? While we search for it , low and high, We wallow in pain and sorrow. I say all this in honesty- From a mind formally open, naive and young. Do not fall for the lies of childhood. A love that is 'true' is bitter, unsung. © 2016 Kirsty HignettAuthor's Note
