PoetryA Poem by Kirsty HignettThis poem is one I wrote for English to oppose the negativity projected in Larkin, Plath and other poets works.Poetry
They say the best poems in life are sad, They depress to impress and are quite mad. For Larkin and Plath this seemed true, They wrote their poems in spite of you.
I on the other hand see fit to show, The things that keep my heart aglow. From the friendships and love I hold so dear, To the sights and sounds of things near.
Life has not yet made me bitter, I do not class myself as "tussocky litter". Why be upset? Life is so much better, with a smile as you read each poetic letter.
To those who write about the worst I ask, why so glum? Are the depressing feelings in you about to burst, Or have the woes of life made you dumb?
Life is beautiful yet you poets make it die, Talking of your troubles and making them last. I'm always left here to wonder why, You don't make the most of it and have a blast.
