Pye

Pye

A Poem by Kiri J
"

my cat who is no longer my cat.

"
She asked me to sign a form
'surrendering' you.
She squared me up
Having made her judgements
Well before we met.

"You did this to yourself
And you did this to him.
Irresponsible
Despicable
Wench'
She said in her glare,
Teeth clenched
Around a cigar that she toked
And stung my eyes with her smoke

But it wasn't the air
That she scornfully blew
It was knowing I'd never again
Hold you,
Sleep to the sound of your purrs.
My sweet boy with the greying
Black fur.

When I cried
She knew
I hadn't lied.
I could never forsee
What had now come to be
The time I was letting you go.

The lingering cattish air
Doesn't irk me now.

'Just a cat.
Just a f*****g cat,
Don't stress
It's a cat.'

My cat.
Mine.
No excuses...
I'm sorry
My Pye.

Oh my, Kiri, this touches me deeply. Your cat in the picture is the splitting image of my beloved cat, Mow Mow, another black beautiful animal, friend, and family member. I know that when that time comes, I am going to be absolutely devastated. In fact just thinking about it right now is bringing a pall over my spirit. Thanks for sharing this poem. It was one I could definately relate to, and appreciate immensely.

Hoping you and your fam had a great weekend.

I love your sorrow, darling, so extremely beautiful.
Mournful, with love vindicating your words while you wrap them around a metaphorical corpse of your loved one. Be it just a cat, "Just a f*****g cat," you are stronger because of it. Odors may linger, but like memories, they may take long to fade. Your affectionate feline, lives within you, and you know it and feel it, always has, always will.

The affection that you share with your cat 'PYE' is so great and is very well depicted in your poem. It really hurts when you loose someone you love, be it your pet cat. The breaking of that intimate bond is something that is difficult to handle. And though others find it to be only an animal, it's only the owner who knows it emotional worth, which I see, you know very well.
It has all come out very good. But I hate the smoking lady...lol
Well Done!!!
