SunstrokeA Poem by Kiri JA dusty ray of midday sun Settles upon my face The welcome warmth is a liar and cheat Burns with her soft, Charming touch. I sprawl on the deck my arms And legs Splayed out Here, I am a compass. North South East West A submissive slave to the summer sky; Her languid lover, A fool for the flame… My hands grasp the grass My solar seductress has me believing That I might fall off the ground… There’s a rainstorm coming… A light drizzle Steams and sizzles On my charred and wilting body In helpless, Raspy whispers, I beg her Break through these blasted clouds The jealous lover, scorned, I lay beneath this meddlesome storm Wet And soaking
