A Doctor's Fight

A Doctor's Fight

A Poem by Zoya Sahai

The rain spattered against the big windows,
hard and cruel.
Thunder's deep laugh boomed
and heralded the arrival
of what I dreaded the most
for him,
Death.
The dark robed witch
glided quietly,
as nature's forces guided it,
nearer and nearer to him.
But I stood firm..
The Soldier of Life,
The Guardian of Hope.

He looked up at me.
His eyes a mosaic
of pain, of hurt, of loss.
He was not my father,
or my brother.
He was neither my friend,
nor my lover.
But I worshiped him,
for he was my patient.
I respected him like my father,
protected him like my brother,
cared for him like my friend,
and loved him like my lover.

His hand tightly clasped in mine,
he breathed in relief,
as with me his life lay.
With God on my side,
I took up the fight
and unsheathed my sword of knowledge.
My each move calculated,
I struck, dodged and struck again.

Thunder let out a final cry,
as the witch receded away.
The seven colored flag of Victory
waved in the sky,
as sun smiled upon
the Life I'd just saved.

Great poem. You portrayed an epic battle giving this piece the validity it deserves. The battle with death is as strenuous and spiritually exhausting as anything on the battlefield although I can not fathom a doctor loving a patient as a lover. This doesn't make sense. Wouldn't this cross an ethical line?

Yiu did a great a job, my only complaint is, "big window", that's just because i don't think you need the word big in there, other than that this is fantastic! Original too, which is hard to come by these days.

You indeed portrayed the nobility of a doctor, and so much more about your writing style and precision. This poem is not only beautiful in its portrayal, but it's creative and original. I truly enjoyed reading it!

So picturesque and so noble, Zoya, this is one Poem Of The Day (must have been the day it was released). The idea is all clear in your head and not just put in some random manner. You have penned the superbly clean ideas in with utter perfection. Really nice. :-)

very few people get the privilege of bringing back people from the shackles of death.
I am proud you had an opportunity to fight that fight
