SacrificeA Poem by Kira JayeA Spoken Word I wrote to recite at church for Good Friday.
Long before
There was you and I or us and them There was "him"- A man that also wasn't a man A perfect Sinless God-With-us man Who they called Emmanuel, Jahova, Jesus Christ Who came down and died to a pay a price He did not owe. He came to the garden and fell Face first to the dirt Knowing what had to be But did it have to be Him who died for so many sins He who did not sin He who never did Anything deserving of hell But was destined for Chosen for Made for Death by the weight of countless Tainted deeds So he got down on his face Praying, begging for the grace Of Abba, Father, the one true God If there was any other way, A way other than thorns in his skull A spear to the side A thousand lashes to the spine if there was any way else That he could not have to die But he was perfect. So it had to be done. He wiped the dirt from his face Told Satan Stay away from them The children I love, Then suffered the Cross and screamed at the top of his lungs Father forgive them for They know not what they have done And the world grew dark and quiet and still. Plunged into chaos, It yearned for the savior it had killed But when they saw him again they still did not believe Seeing the scars on his skin The marks of the nails That burdened his wrists Finally felt the pain Of what they had done to him He Shouted "If you want something to believe in, Believe in me! Because I shed the blood you were supposed to bleed If you want something to believe in Believe in me because I died So you could breathe in every breath that you breathe and think I am forgiven Do not turn to things of this world because those things you turn to will leave you empty broken breaking shells bleeding endlessly. If you want something to believe in, believe in me. For my sacrifice is what made you free.
